What are Airmovers?

Nortel Airmovers are an ingenious approach to the movement of air and small particles. Operating without moving parts Airmovers create large flows of air by inducing surrounding air. Airmovers use only a small flow of ordinary compressed air for their power.

Output of an Airmover can be controlled over a wide range by adjusting the pressure and gap. Through this, these simple devices can perform the function of complex variable speed and variable pitch fans.

Construction:

Standard NORTEL Airmovers are made of aluminium, precision machined for optimum performance. Models made of other materials such as stainless steel or PVC plastic are available upon request. Special shapes and sizes to suit customer needs are quoted on request.

Flanges for mounting are optional. On AM-750 thru AM-2900 models, flanges may be rotated and locked in any angular position.

Hose or Tube fitting diameters on both ends of all models provides for easy extension for suction and blowing and conveying.

O-Ring maintains leak proof seal at the lock ring when setting the gap orifice between No. 2 & No. 12

Typical Applications:

Blowing. For cooling of people and machines and processes. Blowing water and other liquids off parts to assist drying. Drying inks on sheets, parts and extrusions. Ventilation. Small air curtain applications. Fluidising.

Extraction of fumes, smoke, vapours, cuttings and dust. Tensioning of fibres and strips of tape.

Conveying of scrap trim, small components, plastic resin, pellets, pills and vapours, Can be installed in series in a hose to assist conveying over long distances.

Mixer for gas and air and other gases. Adjusting the gap and pressures provide and infinite variety of mixtures and output volumes.

Other Applications:

  • Cooling electronics cabinets
  • Cooling operators
  • Conveying light particles
  • Weight sorting of light items
  • Air curtain enclosures
  • Drying printers ink
  • Spray cooling of hot parts
  • Humidifying with spray mist
  • Ventilating enclosed working areas
  • Exhausting fumes from solvent tanks
  • Exhausting smoke from machining
  • Removing paper edge trimmings
  • Removing lint and dust
  • Agitation of liquids in tanks
  • Cooling of bearings
  • Cooling motors

ADVANTAGES:

Airmovers have proved to be better than fans, venturis and ejectors in many applications. Their advantages over fans include:

  • Inherently explosion proof – no electricity
  • Quieter operation
  • No moving parts – high reliability – no maintenance
  • Easily variable output
  • Safe in operation – no guards required
  • Absence of radio frequency interference
  • Instant starting and stopping

Airmovers have the following advantages over venturis and ejectors:

  • Lower compressed air consumption
  • Higher entrainment ratio
  • Much quieter
  • No internal obstructions
